A blog can mean different things to different people, for some it can be way to share their personal lives with the world, others may see it as a way to share their knowledge and interests, while in another light companies use blogs to market themselves, promote products and to connect with their customers. But I can bet these are not the main reasons why most blogs are started, and I can bet that these are probably not the main reasons why you will want to start a blog either. My guess is that you want to make money online, am I right? Well I say this with all honesty, “It Can All Begin With A Blog”.
So, What Is A Blog
Well for starters this website you are on right now is a blog, which is based around a topic my fellow Zodiacs and I enjoy and have a strong interest in… Internet Marketing. Here is my ‘unofficial’ definition of a blog “A blog offers an easy and very simple way of publishing content to the web, it then can display it in a way that is easy to read and follow, plus also promotes discussion and interaction from readers.”
Or if you want a slightly more ‘official’ definition, Wikipedia defines a blog as:
“A Blog (a contraction of the term “Web log”) is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order.”
What Is So Good About Blogs
To put it simply, blogs are just easy-to-use, no need for HTML or constantly using an FTP program, the blogging platforms can handle it all these days. Basically, if you know how to type and can use the internet, you can pretty much run your own website/blog, and that is what makes blogs so appealing.
Just to prove how popular blogs are, let me share some statistics with you, thanks to Technorati (a popular blog directory). Looking at the diagram below you can see that there have been an incredible 133 million blog records in their index since 2002, although there is probably a lot more.

How To Start With Your Own Blog
I guarantee you that if you have 20 mins (or less) to spare you could setup your own free blog right now, it can really be as easy as that. Visit wordpress.com or blogger.com, sign up and you’ll be on your way. Although, being a YOTA member allows you to setup an exclusive free blog as well. These free services however, offer only a subdomain URL (i.e blogname.wordpress.com or blogname.blogger.com), which is fine and can still work well, but may not appeal to all.
Your other option is to setup your own hosted blog on your own website, there is some cost in this option and can require a little bit of technical knowledge, but nothing that can’t be learnt or outsourced. Definitely worth the effort.
So what are you waiting for? Get going on developing that blog now – and have fun!

Learning how to blog has been one of the best things I have learnt from joining the Year of the Affiliate Forum. I have one blog for just writing about things that interest me and I also blog about the books I love reading.
Thanks YOTA

Hi Year of the Tiger,
I agree that one of the easiest ways to get started making money online is with a blog. You just have to choose if you want a free blog or a self-hosted one.
I think a free blog is great for beginners. That way a lot of the technical issues are already taken care of and you just have to focus on your content.
I love my self-hosted blog though. It gives me a lot more freedom to build my blog exactly the way I want.
